ISC leveling line — flattening carbon coil to certified flatness in Los Angeles.
ISC leveling line, flattening carbon coil to certified flatness in Los Angeles.

Interstate Steel Center is an independent steel coil leveling and toll processing company in Los Angeles, California. Since 1970 we have flattened customer owned carbon flat rolled coil into precise, stress relieved cut to length sheet and blanks on four dedicated leveling lines. Because we don't sell steel, brokers, service centers, and OEMs can send coil to ISC without ever handing material to a competitor.

What is steel coil leveling?

Steel leaves the mill wound under tension, which gives it coil set, crossbow, and edge wave, memory of the curve it was rolled into. Leveling uncoils the steel and runs it through a series of offset rolls that flex the material past its yield point, erasing that internal stress and delivering flat, stable sheet cut to length.

Flat, square blanks matter downstream. Material that lies flat feeds laser cutting, stamping, punching, and forming with far tighter accuracy and less scrap than steel run straight off the coil.

Four leveling lines, one standard

ISC runs four cut to length leveling lines, each certified and optimized for a specific gauge and width range, from light gauge VOSS and ROWE lines through the heavy AETNA line and our wide, heavy 72" line.

Gauge, width & length range

  • Carbon flat rolled steel from light gauge sheet (about 30 ga.) up to ¼-inch (.250") plate
  • Widths to 60"; cut lengths to 350"
  • Coils up to 55,000 lbs, among the heaviest leveling capacity in the LA basin
  • Cold rolled, hot rolled, pickled & oiled, galvanized, galvannealed and more

Flatness & tolerances

Typical cut to length tolerance runs about ±1/8" on length with squareness held to within 3/16", depending on gauge and line. Tighter requirements are reviewed per job.

Why an independent processor

Most steel processors in Southern California also sell steel, so the moment you send a coil, you're handing material to a competitor. ISC is different by design. We are a pure toll processor: we process only customer owned coil and have never sold a pound of steel. That makes us the safe set of hands for brokers and service centers who need overflow or specialty leveling without channel conflict.

Built for the West Coast market

Our plant at 7001 S. Alameda St. sits in the heart of Los Angeles, minutes from the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and rail accessible for inbound coil. As tariffs raise the cost of imported steel, East Coast and Midwest mills and brokers are increasingly railing coil west to capture West Coast demand, and ISC is the Los Angeles processing partner that lets them serve this market without building a plant here.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Interstate Steel Center at 7001 S. Alameda St. in Los Angeles is an independent toll processor that levels customer owned carbon coil on four dedicated cut to length lines. Because ISC does not sell steel, brokers, service centers, and OEMs can have coils leveled without giving business to a competitor.

Coil leveling uncoils steel and passes it through offset rolls that flex the material to remove coil set, crossbow, and edge wave, producing flat, stress relieved sheet cut to length. Flat blanks feed laser cutting, stamping, and fabrication far more accurately than material straight off the coil.

ISC levels carbon flat rolled steel from light gauge sheet (about 30 ga.) up to 1/4-inch (.250) plate, in widths to 60 inches and cut lengths to 350 inches, handling coils up to 55,000 lbs across four leveling lines.

No. ISC is a pure toll processor that processes only customer owned coil and never sells steel. This eliminates channel conflict, so brokers and service centers can use ISC without routing material to a competitor.
