A LEGACY BUILT
IN STEEL

Over five decades of precision toll processing in the heart of Los Angeles. Family owned, conflict free, and still leveling to the tightest tolerances on the West Coast.

Our Story

FOUNDED IN 1970

Interstate Steel Center was founded in 1970 at 7001 South Alameda Street in Los Angeles, a location the company has called home for over five decades. From its earliest days, ISC was built around a single, unwavering principle: provide the West Coast steel industry with a trusted, independent toll processing partner that would never compete with its own customers.

In an industry where many processors have drifted into distribution and steel sales, ISC has held the line. We process customer owned coils. We do not buy, inventory, or sell steel. This discipline has defined our relationships and driven our growth for more than 55 years.

Our 107,000 sq. ft. processing floor, Los Angeles, CA

What began as a single leveling line serving local service centers has grown into a 107,000 square foot facility housing four high capacity leveling lines and, most recently, a precision slitter, expanding ISC's capabilities into full slit coil production for the first time in our history.

Today, ISC serves service centers, brokers, OEMs, and manufacturers across the western United States and beyond. Our customers range from regional distributors to some of the largest steel buyers in North America. They share a common expectation: when a coil leaves ISC, it is flat, square, and packaged to spec, every time.

Through five decades of changing markets, ownership has remained in the family, and so has the discipline that built the company. ISC's reputation rests not on how much steel we move, but on how precisely we return it.

Company History

FIVE DECADES OF PRECISION

1970
Founded in Los Angeles
Interstate Steel Center opens at 7001 South Alameda Street. The founding mission: serve the West Coast steel industry as a pure play toll processor, with no steel sales, ever. The first leveling line begins serving local service centers and distributors.
1980s
Capacity Expansion
Growing demand from regional service centers drives investment in additional leveling capacity. ISC expands its equipment lineup and customer base across the western United States, building a reputation for reliability and consistent tolerances larger processors couldn't match.
1990s
Heavy Gauge & Facility Growth
ISC invests in heavy gauge leveling, extending capability from light gauge coil into thicker plate and structural grades. The Alameda Street facility grows to its current 107,000 sq. ft. footprint, adding dedicated coil and sheet storage for a growing base of OEMs and national distributors.
2000s
Technology & Inventory Systems
ISC implements advanced inventory tracking software for real time coil and sheet visibility with full heat number traceability. The 72" leveling line is commissioned, extending width capability and attracting a new tier of large volume customers who require wide format processing.
2010s
Operational Excellence
Under consistent family ownership, ISC deepens relationships with major West Coast service centers and national OEM accounts. The packaging program of heat treated skids, custom branded covers, and heavy gauge banding is refined to meet the exacting requirements of automotive, construction, and heavy equipment end users.
2025
Slitting Line Installed: A New Chapter
ISC commissions its first precision slitter, running coils to 50,000 lbs, entry ODs to 80", and up to 23 slit cuts per pass at ±.005" tolerance. Slitting transforms ISC from a leveling only operation into a full service flat rolled processing center, while the founding commitment to toll only, conflict free service remains unchanged.
What We Stand For

OUR PRINCIPLES

01
Conflict Free, Always
ISC does not sell steel, period. This has been our policy since the day we opened and it will never change. Our customers are service centers and distributors, not our competition.
02
Precision as a Standard
Tolerances are commitments, not targets. Every job that leaves our facility is produced to documented flatness and cut length specifications, verified before it ships.
03
Reliability Over Volume
We don't chase volume at the expense of service. Next day turnaround is our standard, not our premium, because your production schedule doesn't wait.
04
Long Term Partnerships
Many of our customer relationships span decades. That kind of loyalty is built one order at a time, through consistent quality, honest communication, and zero surprises.
05
Family Ownership, Long View
As a family owned company, we make decisions for the long run, not the next quarter. That means investing in equipment, people, and the facility to remain the best processor on the West Coast for the next 55 years.
06
Continuous Improvement
The 2025 slitter installation reflects our commitment to grow with our customers. When the industry demands new capabilities, we invest, so our partners don't have to look elsewhere.
